Virginia is More Blue than Red - Even with a Red Map

March 1, 2026

Imagine a small company that owns a small building with three floors.

On the bottom floor is the installation team. There are 10 installers. They each have a small desk and their desks are crammed into half of the floor. The other half is the warehouse and workshop. They mostly work in the field, so the company doesn't feel they need much space in the building.

On the next floor are four sales folks and a draftsperson. The sales folks need space to meet customers and show them mock-ups. The draftsperson needs space for the big-screen computer and wide printer.

The boss and secretary are on the third floor. After a big contract, the boss wants a celebratory lunch. The boss tells the team to vote on where to go.

8 of the ten installers want to go to a steak house. Two want Mongolian BBQ.

3 of the sales folks want sea food. One wants Italian. The draftsperson wants to try the new hot pot place.

The boss and secretary don't vote.

The installers think they're all going to the steak house because of their overwhelming majority, but the sales folks argue that the vote is by floor. The installers have half of a floor, so they get half a vote. The sales folks take up more of the building, so it's only fair that they get more of the vote. So it's sea food.

And if you think that argument is stupid, then you should understand how dishonest it is for Republicans to show you a Virginia election results map and tell you Republicans should have won the election because red takes up more of the map than blue.

Virginia is more blue than read even if the map is more red than blue, and people saying otherwise lying.

Virginia elections results map. The map is mostly red and partially blue.
