About Redistricting

Feb. 17, 2026

The Virginia effort to redraw our districts is a temporary step to level the playing field and preserve fair representation for Virginians after Republicans in states including Texas, North Carolina, and Florida either rigged their maps or are in the process of doing so. No one wants to be in this position, but we can't sit back while they lock in unchecked power.

Core points:

Level the Playing Field:

After what Republicans have done in Texas, North Carolina, and what's coming in Florida at Trump's direction, this is the only way to stop Trump and MAGA allies from rigging themselves into unchecked power.

Enact a Temporary Emergency Fix:

This is a short-term, emergency response to unprecedented national interference, and it sunsets after 2030, returning to Virginia's bipartisan redistricting process.

Let Virginians Decide

Despite lies you may have heard, midterm redistricting is about letting Virginians decide. Are we going to let Republicans in other states gain seats in Washington by cheating, or are we going to do something to restore fairness in upcoming elections? It's our choice, Virginians.

Work toward the Real Solution (National Reform):

Democrats support a nationwide ban on partisan gerrymandering. Republicans have repeatedly blocked those reforms, forcing states like Virginia to take temporary action.

Vote!

Vote to allow the General Assembly to redraw districts before the upcoming election. The vote will take place April 21st, with early voting starting March 6th.
